Japan: A Cultural Quest by Kayak - MAY 14 - 24 ,2012

Experience Japan’s rich culture, fascinating people, and awe-inspiring landscape.
Shinto shrines, traditional Japanese food, a World Heritage Site and traditional Japanese
hot springs known as onsen await the paddler who travels to Japan with Terra Santa. Our trip takes us to one of Japan’s most famous places of worship, the Ise-Jingu Shrine - the Shrine to the Sun Goddess.

We'll paddle the
Bay of Pearls, where the cultured pearls industry originated and pearl rafts pepper the calm sea in an impressive display.

Our journey includes the saw-toothed
coast of Kii-hantoPeninsula, an area cherished by the Japanese for thousands of years for its natural beauty and spiritual significance. We’ll also paddle down the clear waters of the KumanoRiver, a fantastic way to get a unique perspective on the Kumanos spiritual landscape. The KumanoRiver is part of the Kumano Kodo, an ancient Shinto pilgrimage route, and the only waterway on the planet registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

An experienced Terra Santa guide will lead the group, accompanied by two English-speaking Japanese guides, Take Shibata and Katsu Ueno, a storyteller in the Kumano tradition.
