Japan: A Cultural Quest by Kayak - MAY 14 - 24 ,2010

Experience Japans rich culture, fascinating people, and awe-inspiring landscape.
Shinto shrines, traditional Japanese food, a World Heritage Site and traditional Japanese hot springs knows as onsena wait the paddler who travels to Japan with Terra Santa. Our trip takes us to the Ise-Jingu Shrine - the Shrine to the Sun Goddess, and one of Japans most famous.

We'll paddle the Bay of Pearls, where cultured pearls were first cultivated, and pearl rafts dot the calm sea in an impressive array.

Our journey includes the saw-toothed coast of Kii-hanto Peninsula, an area cherished by the Japanese for thousands of years for its natural beauty and spiritual significance. Well also paddle down the clear waters of the Kumano River, a fantastic way to get a unique perspective on Kumanos spiritual landscape.The Kumano River is part of the Kumano Kodo, an ancient Shinto pilgrimage route, and the only waterway on the planet registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

An experienced Terra Santa guide will lead the group, accompanied by two English-speaking Japanese guides,Take Shibata and Katsu Ueno a storyteller in the Kumano tradition.
